Nigerian rapper , popularly known as Ycee, has expressed concern over what he describes as the growing devaluation of education in Nigeria, warning that academic excellence is no longer receiving the recognition it once enjoyed.

The music star made the remarks on social media, where he lamented what he sees as a cultural shift that increasingly rewards ignorance while sidelining intellectual achievement and educational success.

According to Ycee, the country has moved beyond the era of glorifying internet fraud, popularly referred to as Yahoo culture, to what he called a “Peller culture,” which he believes is having a damaging effect on societal values.

“Nigerian society is no longer celebrating academic excellence. It’s not even Yahoo culture anymore; now we have a ‘Peller culture.’ This ‘Olodo’ uprising we are witnessing is terrible,” the rapper wrote.

He argued that there appears to be a growing tendency to normalize and accommodate ignorance, suggesting that such attitudes are becoming more widespread across society.

“It feels like we are trying so hard to accommodate ignorance so people won’t feel bad, and now they seem to be the majority,” he added.

Ycee also raised concerns about the state of the nation’s education system, noting that the challenges confronting learning institutions extend beyond insecurity and attacks on schools.

“The massive attack on Nigeria’s educational system is alarming, aside from kidnappings and Boko Haram attacks,” he stated.
