Plateau Killings: Tinubu Orders Manhunt, Approves 5,000-Camera Surveillance

President Bola Tinubu has signaled a major shift toward tech-driven security in Plateau State, ordering the immediate installation of 5,000 CCTV cameras to combat recurring attacks.

Speaking to stakeholders in Jos, the President directed the Ministry of Defence and top security agencies to apprehend those responsible for the latest wave of violence.

The President’s visit followed the tragic Palm Sunday assault in Jos North that claimed 28 lives.

In a somber address, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s duty to protect lives, vowing to end the cycle of violence that has devastated families across the region.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang had earlier welcomed the President, noting that his visit came at a time when the state was enjoying relative peace and attracting local and foreign investments before the Sunday incident.

Mutfwang said the attack was a temporary setback but expressed confidence that, with the support of the Federal Government and security forces, the state would overcome the challenge.

He praised the tireless efforts of security personnel, noting that their “gallant” work often prevents numerous tragedies that never make the headlines.

He revealed that a recent Security Council meeting had already resulted in significant, far-reaching strategic decisions.

Reflecting on the state’s history, the Governor acknowledged that Plateau’s security struggles have spanned nearly thirty years, persisting through the administrations of Joshua Dariye, Jonah Jang, and Simon Lalong.

However, he credited President Tinubu’s leadership with creating a fresh opportunity for Plateau’s leaders to unite.

Mutfwang vowed to mobilize the people to reclaim the state’s heritage as a premier destination for peace and tourism.

Adding to the call for action, former Governor Jonah Jang requested a private follow-up with the President in Abuja to discuss long-term solutions.

Jang also cautioned against political sabotage and expressed confidence that, with federal backing, current community sensitization efforts would prevail.
