A palliative distribution exercise in Kano turned fatal on Friday after an NSCDC officer died during the event.

Organized by lawmaker Alhassan Ado Doguwa, representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for the Ramadan and Sallah season, the distribution in Tudun Wada was marred by the officer’s sudden passing away.

Kano NSCDC spokesperson Ibrahim Abdullahi confirmed the incident the following day.

According to Abdullahi, the command is not treating the matter lightly and has opened a full-scale investigation into the suspected killing.

“Yes, it is true. Consequently, the commandant has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. When we are done, we will release a press statement with the full details of the incident,” Abdullahi said.

The lawmaker Doguwa alleged that hoodlums attempted to disrupt the distribution exercise, leading to the death of the officer.

“I was informed that some hoodlums attempted to cause disorder during the distribution, an incident that resulted in the death of a security officer of the Civil Defence Corps,” he said.

The lawmaker expressed shock over the development and condoled with the NSCDC, the family of the deceased, and the people of Tudun Wada.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Civil Defence Corps, the family of the deceased, and the entire people of Tudun Wada Local Government Area. May Allah have mercy on him and forgive him,” he added.

Doguwa called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice, while urging the public to desist from spreading false claims linking him to the attack.
