A cloud of outrage has enveloped Delta politics following a violent disruption of the APC Ethiope West Congress, as Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu condemned what she described as a “senseless and unacceptable” assault on party faithful.
The lawmaker, who represents Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency and chairs the House Committee on NDDC, visited victims of the attack and expressed deep shock at the brutality that marred what should have been a routine democratic exercise.
“No democratic process should ever descend into brutality,” she said, stressing that political disagreements must never degenerate into threats, intimidation, or physical harm. She described the incident as a stain on the nation’s commitment to peace, tolerance, and democratic engagement.
Ibori-Suenu issued a strong call to security agencies to act swiftly, urging them to identify, apprehend, and prosecute not only the perpetrators but also any sponsors behind the violence.
In a show of solidarity, she directed that all medical expenses of the injured victims be fully covered, assuring them of continued support beyond mere words.
“Violence has no place in our politics. Justice must prevail,” she declared.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns about rising political tension and the urgent need for accountability as party activities intensify across the country.
