APC’s Abubakar Emerges Victorious in FCT Abaji Council 9Chairmanship Poll

Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress has won the chairmanship seat of the Abaji Area Council in the Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory polls, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to results announced on Sunday by INEC Presiding Officer Muhammad Usman in a video posted by X user @Imranmuhdz, Abubakar polled a total of 15,535 votes.

He defeated his closest challenger, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, who received 5,357 votes.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate trailed with 4,547 votes, followed by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with 53 votes, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 37 votes.

“Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of APC, having satisfied the requirement by the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Usman declared.

The declaration comes less than 24 hours after voting concluded on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The election was held across all six FCT area councils, including Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.

Apart from Abaji, the APC also won in Kwali, and AMAC Area Councils, while the PDP won in Gwagwalada.
