Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has spoken publicly for the first time about the intimate video involving her and a former partner that circulated online months ago, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the leak and its impact on her life.
The actress, who had stayed away from social media following the incident, made her return with an emotional video message in which she addressed the controversy, the accusations made against her, and her decision to embrace a new chapter.
According to Lawal, her former partner blamed her for the leak, alleging that it happened because she refused to publicly acknowledge him on her social media platforms.
The actress questioned the claim, noting that she had never made it a habit to post romantic partners online.
She further revealed that the situation exposed troubling behaviour, stating that she only truly understood who he was when she attempted to walk away from the relationship.
Lawal said she was told that if he could not have her, no one else would want her either.
Reflecting on her career, the actress explained that her playful on-screen persona often allowed her to overlook serious personal issues.
However, she said she has now decided to “flip the switch” and no longer rely on humour or performance to mask her reality.
In her message, Lawal also addressed a widespread narrative suggesting that she deliberately shared the intimate video herself, firmly rejecting the claim and saying she would not allow it to define her story.
More importantly, she used the moment to speak directly to women who had privately reached out to her after the incident, many of whom, she said, were facing similar situations and emotional distress.
Lawal stressed that the shame associated with leaked private content should not be carried by victims, emphasising that such situations are never their fault.
She noted that the experience had forced her to confront life differently, adding that she had already endured what she described as the worst phase of her personal life.
As she moves forward, the actress announced her decision to live a more “virtuous life,” describing it as a conscious shift in values, priorities and personal growth.
“I am flipping the switch and looking forward to an entirely new character and adventure,” she said, expressing hope that her audience would support her transformation without harsh judgement.
