The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have confirmed that two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal road accident today on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and he is stable.
The collision, which occurred when Joshua’s vehicle struck a stationary truck, resulted in the deaths of two passengers.
In a joint statement released Monday evening, signed by Ogun Special Adviser Kayode Akinmade and Lagos Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident and pray that Almighty God grants them the strength to bear this difficult loss,” the officials stated.
Following the crash, Joshua and one other survivor were evacuated to a specialized medical facility in Lagos.
Medical teams have confirmed that both patients are currently in stable condition and do not require emergency surgery.
Joshua remains conscious and has already been in contact with his family as doctors continue to monitor his recovery.
“The governments of Ogun and Lagos States are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that the affected persons receive the best possible medical care.
“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have also commenced.
“We appreciate the concern shown by members of the public and kindly request privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family at this time,” it stated.
