Ambassadors: Senate Confirms Jimoh Ibrahim, ex-Rivers Administrator Ibas, INEC’s Yakubu, Reno, 60 Others

The Senate on Thursday, December 18, confirmed 64 ambassadorial and high commissioner designates following the consideration of a report by the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Presented by Committee Chairman Senator Sani Bello (APC, Niger North), the approved list features a mix of 34 career diplomats and 30 non-career nominees.

Among the prominent non-career designates cleared are Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (APC, Ondo South), former INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau.

Other notable confirmations include former First Ladies Mrs. Chioma Ohakim (Imo), Mrs. Florence Ajimobi (Oyo), and Erelu Angela Adebayo (Ekiti), alongside Femi Fani-Kayode, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), and Senators Ita Enang, Grace Bent, and Nora Ladi Daduut.

Among the 34 career ambassadorial nominees are Sulu – Gambari Olatunji Ahmed from Kwara State , Segun Ige from Edo State and Odumah Yvonne Ehinosen from Edo State.

Presenting the report, Sen. Bello said all the nominees were found worthy of their appointments without any petition against them.

During the screening exercise, Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim was the first to be invited as he was given a red carpet reception as a serving Senator and member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

In his remarks after the confirmation, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio who congratulated them, urged them represent the country well as good ambassadors of Nigeria in their respective countries.
