Mbappe Wins Landmark Case Against PSG, Awarded €61m

A French labor court has ruled in favor of Kylian Mbappe, ordering Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to pay the former forward €61 million ($71.8 million) in unpaid wages and bonuses.

The dispute centered on Mbappe’s claims that PSG withheld payments for the final months of his contract, which expired in June 2024.

Mbappe’s lawyers welcomed the ruling, stating, “It re-establishes a simple truth — even in the professional football industry, labor laws apply to everyone.”

They expressed satisfaction with the decision, which upheld Mbappe’s claims for unpaid salary and bonuses.

The court rejected PSG’s counterclaim, which sought €440 million in damages, citing a “loss of opportunity” after Mbappe left for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

PSG had argued that Mbappe’s decision not to extend his contract caused significant financial harm.

Mbappe had initially sought over €260 million from PSG, alleging unfair treatment and withheld payments.

The court ultimately awarded him €55 million in unpaid salary and €6 million in holiday payments.

The ruling marks a significant victory for Mbappe, who scored 256 goals in 308 games for PSG before joining Real Madrid in 2024.

PSG has not announced if it will appeal the decision.
