Plateau State’s dominant streak continued at the 3rd National Para Games, as a 12-medal haul on Day 5 bolstered their total tally to 28.
The momentum began on the badminton court, where Munkwoba Gomam delivered a masterclass in the men’s singles SU5 final, outclassing his Lagosian rival to secure a brilliant gold.
In the same discipline, Andrew Michael claimed silver in the WH2 category following a solid win over a player from Abia State, while Nendirmwa Monday took silver in the SL4 class.
In powerlifting, Cynthia Mathias lifted 100 kg to win silver in the women’s 73 kg division, and Gloria Makarfi secured silver in the women’s 79 kg class with a 95 kg effort.
Deborah Pam collected bronze in the 73 kg category, while Peace Musa added bronze in the 50 kg event.
The only setback came in amputee football, where Plateau’s campaign ended in heartbreak after a narrow 1-0 loss to Niger State in the third-place playoff.
With just two days of competition remaining, Plateau now sits on 28 medals made up of 7 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze.
The full breakdown stands as follows: Karate (2 gold, 0 silver, 1 bronze), Powerlifting (2 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze), Para Cycling (2 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze) and Badminton (1 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze).
Persecondnews correspondent covering the games reports that action on Day 6 started at 10:00 am with para badminton at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B, and para athletics at the Main Bowl, Package A.
