Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned from his position, effective immediately, citing health reasons.
The resignation letter dated December 1, 2025, comes just hours after a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu has accepted Badaru’s resignation and expressed appreciation for his dedicated service to the nation, according to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Presidential spokesman.
It said the President is expected to nominate a successor later this week, pending Senate confirmation.
The resignation follows a series of security challenges in the North, including abductions and attacks on worshippers and schoolchildren.
Security agencies are intensifying counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across the region.
Persecondnews had reported that Gen. Musa’s meeting with President Tinubu, his first public encounter since his retirement on October 24, 2025, is believed to be focused on addressing the country’s security challenges.
