President Bola Tinubu’s administration has moved to clear long-standing severance obligations owed to former Nigeria Airways workers, the settlement amounts to ₦18 billion for 2,700 beneficiaries, bringing renewed momentum to an obligation outstanding for more than two decades.
Already, 2,100 beneficiaries in batches 1 to 7 have been paid, arrangements are now complete for another 600 in batches 8 and 9 to receive their payments within days.
Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, posted on his official X handle on Monday: “The Federal Government has released ₦4.04 billion in severance benefits to 600 former Nigeria Airways workers, covering the second tranche of payments for Batches 010 and 011.
“The latest disbursement follows the ₦18 billion released in September 2026 to 2,700 former workers across the first nine batches.
“The government says payments are being processed in batches following verification to ensure eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements through a transparent process.”
PerSecondNews reports that this batch-by-batch verification ensures only eligible staff of the defunct national carrier get what is due.
It marks concrete progress in closing a painful chapter that lingered unresolved for over twenty years.
With the first nine batches largely settled and further disbursements under way, the Tinubu government continues efforts to fully clear the outstanding entitlements.
