To strengthen Oyo State’s security operations, Governor Seyi Makinde has taken delivery of two Diamond DA42 MNG Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance aircraft at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan.

The initiative integrates advanced technology into Oyo State’s security architecture to effectively cover its extensive landmass.

Designed for precision aerial monitoring, the new fleet will allow security agencies to track threats in real time across all 33 local government areas, with a key focus on border communities, forest reserves, and remote locations.

Makinde said the aircraft would be deployed immediately as part of efforts to sustain the relative peace in the state.

“Security remains essential to economic growth and public welfare,” Makinde stated, citing the recent Oriire Local Government incident as proof that real-time aerial intelligence is vital for Oyo State.

After Nigerian Air Force pilots flew the new Diamond DA42 aircraft into Ibadan, Makinde disclosed a fresh MoU with the NAF to handle operations, training, and maintenance.

The state deliberately selected the Diamond DA42 model on the Air Force’s advice, leveraging their existing expertise and supply chains to guarantee top-tier pilot training and long-term technical support.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in security equipment and other measures required to protect communities across Oyo State.

Reaffirming his commitment to public safety, Makinde pledged to keep working hand-in-hand with federal forces to dismantle banditry and kidnapping rings across Oyo State.

The new aircraft are part of an aggressive overhaul of the state’s defense plan—aimed at spotting threats earlier, coordinating faster tactical responses, and safeguarding remote border communities.
