Veteran Nollywood actress Grace Ama is mourning the death of her father, Chief Ogbonnaya Azu Ama, who passed away just 10 minutes after asking her to pray for him in their final phone conversation.
Speaking with Per Second News correspondent, the actress recounted the heartbreaking moments leading up to his death, saying her father called her on Thursday evening with a simple but emotional request, “Pray for me”.
According to Grace, Chief Ama asked her to pray for him, and she immediately obliged and prayed together over the phone before ending the call.
“We spoke exactly on Thursday evening and I prayed for him and he said, ‘Amen,'” she recalled.
The actress said she was still processing their conversation when another call came through barely 10 minutes later with the devastating news that her father had died.
“And by 7:11 p.m., I was told he had gone,” she said, describing the experience as one of the most painful moments of her life.
Overwhelmed by grief, Grace said the loss had created a void that words could hardly express, noting that her father had always been her biggest source of encouragement.
“My only first love and cheerleader has gone to be with his Creator. No one to call me Nollywood First Lady anymore,” she said.
The late Ama, a traditional title holder of Ezi Okwu Bu Mdu (Truth Is Life) I of Ebunwana Edda, celebrated his 80th birthday in December 2025, according to his daughter.
She said his passing marked the end of a cherished chapter in her life.
Devastated by the loss, the actress is left holding onto the memory of their final conversation—a prayer that ended with an “Amen” and a goodbye she never anticipated.
