Pastor Enoch Adeboye has strongly defended President Bola Tinubu against critics blaming him for Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.

Adeboye argued that the President has fulfilled his duty as commander-in-chief by ordering military action, adding that he should not be expected to personally join the battlefield.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) made the remarks at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala hosted by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington on June 23.

He clarified his support for the President’s approach, saying he rejects attempts to hold Tinubu personally responsible for security shortfalls.

“I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight,” Adeboye said.

Drawing a parallel with international leadership, Adeboye noted how US President Donald Trump operates when authorizing military strikes.

“When my friend Trump gives instructions to go and bomb anywhere, he doesn’t leave the White House. He has done his bit. ‘I hereby commands, bomb Iran’, and then he goes to his bedroom and sleeps. The rest is left to the supporters,” he explained.

The cleric reaffirmed his stance despite the security situation having worsened dramatically, with threats reportedly advancing close to his own location.

He referenced the US military action against Islamist terrorists in Nigeria last December as a benchmark.

“Things have gone far, far worse than before the bomb came. Far, far worse so bad that they are asking: ‘Where is your God?’ That is how bad it is,” Adeboye observed.

He also urged authorities to pursue the financiers and enablers of terrorism, pointing to a separate public call on the presidency as context for his comments.

“You know them,” he said in reference to a separate public call to the presidency. “Some of them are businessmen. Some of them are politicians. Go after them.

“Because if you do not deal with those who are supplying these people with arms and ammunition  and most of the time, when they go about, they go about on motorcycles  if we don’t go after the sponsors, the problem will continue.”

Adeboye called on the United States to partner with other nations in assisting Nigeria to overcome the terrorist threat.

Persecondnews reports that his intervention comes at a time when public discourse on national security remains heated, with the influential religious leader emphasizing strategic leadership over direct involvement in combat operations.
