Kano building collapse: 16 rescued alive, three of them unconscious

Sixteen people have been rescued alive after a building collapsed at Dan Dishe, Kwanar Yashi, in the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

Three of the victims were pulled from the rubble unconscious.

Saminu Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday.

“The Kano State Fire Service wishes to inform the general public at about 4:32 am. Today Saturday, 8 August 2026, the Service’s Emergency Response Unit, received an emergency call from one of our staff Aminu Sani Warure, reporting the collapse of a building at Dan Dishe, Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area.

“Upon receiving the report, men of the Service from the Headquarters were immediately mobilized to the scene. On arrival, they discovered that a residential building of about 20 × 30 ft had collapsed,” it said.

All the victims were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, the brother of their father, for further necessary attention.

The statement said investigation was currently ongoing to find out the cause of the incident.

“The Kano State Fire Service urges members of the public to observe all necessary safety precautions, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent similar incidents.”
