Commuters on the busy Mokwa-Bida highway faced severe hardship after angry protesters blocked all entry points into Mokwa over persistent banditry, leaving many travelers stranded since Saturday night.
One protester, Saliu Mohammed, alleged that security agencies have failed to rescue 15 residents recently abducted by suspected bandits—a claim that could not be independently verified.
Mohammed vowed that the protest would be sustained until the victims were rescued.
A commuter heading to Abuja from Ilorin, Joy Amaechi, lamented that she had spent five hours at Mokwa with no solution in sight.
She called for urgent government intervention to rescue the victims.
Mass transit driver Henry Nwachukwu reached Mokwa at approximately 7:00 AM on Sunday, only to find his journey halted.
As of 10:30 AM, demonstrators showed no signs of dispersing, keeping the key route completely blocked.
