Military forces under “Operation Hadin Kai” crushed a desperate attempt by extremists to capture four key bases in Borno State between Thursday night and Friday, March 6 morning.

The five-hour battle resulted in heavy insurgent casualties, including the elimination of several top-ranking leaders.

According to Lt.-Col. Sanni Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North East), troops successfully defended their positions in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok against the coordinated onslaught.

“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have once again successfully thwarted coordinated terrorist attempts to overrun troops’ locations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok,” he said in a statement obtained by Persecondnews.

“The desperate attacks, launched between approximately 2230hrs uptill 0300 hours this morning, were met with overwhelming resistance from alert and determined troops who firmly held their defensive positions despite the intensity of the assaults,” he added.

Uba stated that the defenders responded with precise flanking movements supported by rapid reinforcements from Sectors 1 and 2, which completely routed the assailants and forced them into chaotic retreats.

“In some isolated instances where sections of the defensive perimeter were temporarily breached, troops swiftly counter-attacked and fully regained control of their positions.”

Key insurgent figures known as Amirs were among those killed alongside dozens of fighters during the counter-offensive.

Although certain buildings inside the bases suffered damage from the heavy exchanges of fire, every military installation remained securely under the control of Operation Hadin Kai forces.

Working closely with the air wing, the military carried out targeted airstrikes on escaping militants and suspected hideouts throughout the night, inflicting further heavy losses and weakening the group’s overall strength.

“Ground troops are currently conducting exploitation operations across the affected areas, with recovery of terrorist corpses, weapons and other combat equipment ongoing,” Sanni disclosed.

Tragically, the operation came at a cost to the military.

“Regrettably, a number of brave soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty, including a gallant officer who fought courageously from the front while leading his troops against the attackers.

“Their sacrifice reflects the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defending the nation and protecting innocent citizens,” he said.

The failed assaults highlight the growing desperation of the terrorist network, which continues to face relentless pressure across the region.

“Operation HADIN KAI remains firmly in control of the battlespace,” Uba assured.
