How Gospel Singer ‘Omijje Oju Mi’ Lost Battle to Protracted Illness

Prominent Nigerian gospel singer and minister, Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omijje Oju Mi, has been confirmed dead.

She died on Tuesday at a Lagos hospital where she had been on admission receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

The revered gospel minstrel was said to have died in the late hours of Tuesday after a long and protracted illness, bringing an end to a life devoted to worship, ministry, and soul-stirring music that touched many across the country.

Sources close to the family disclosed to Persecondnews that Omijje Oju Mi had been battling an undisclosed ailment for about two years. In the last six months, she was reportedly in and out of the hospital as her health condition fluctuated.

Despite the severity of her health challenges, the singer kept her struggles largely private.

Friends and colleagues within the gospel music community revealed that she deliberately avoided public attention over her illness.

According to those close to her, there were moments when prayers were raised on her behalf by friends and fellow ministers, but the late singer preferred to endure her battles quietly, choosing not to burden the public with her personal pain.

A source, who spoke with her just days before her passing said she sounded hopeful and optimistic.

She reportedly told the source that her condition had improved and that she believed she would soon be back on her feet.

That optimism made the news of her death even more devastating to those who had spoken with her recently, as many genuinely believed she was on the path to recovery.

Persecondnews recalls that Omijje Oju Mi rose to prominence through her powerful and emotional ministrations, often marked by deep expressions of worship that moved congregations to tears during live performances.

Her stage name, Omijje Oju Mi, meaning “tears of the eyes” was drawn from her breakout and widely cherished song of the same title, a track that firmly established her presence in the Nigerian gospel music space.

Through that song and many other ministrations, she became known for delivering worship sessions filled with raw emotion, spiritual depth, and a strong sense of divine encounter.

Beyond her music, colleagues described her as a deeply private individual who carried her faith with quiet strength, even in moments of intense personal hardship.

Her death has left a void within the gospel music community, with many artistes, ministers, and worshippers struggling to come to terms with the loss of a voice that defined sincere worship for them.

As news of her passing spreads, tributes continue to pour in from those whose lives were touched by her songs and ministrations, celebrating her dedication to God and her unwavering commitment to her calling.
