Tinubu’s Peace Deal in Rivers Hits Snag as Wike Accuses Fubara of Breach

236

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has pledged to reveal the specifics of the President Bola Tinubu-brokered peace agreement intended to end the Rivers State political crisis.

Speaking during a “thank-you visit” to Tai Local Government Area, Wike accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of reneging on the deal.

“Very soon, we will let people know what we agreed on before Mr. President,” Wike said.

The Minister warned supporters against trusting politicians who fail to keep their promises, emphasizing that Rivers people are already “battle-ready” for the 2027 elections.

He insisted that the upcoming polls will be decided by the will of the people rather than financial influence.

While Wike maintained the visit was simply to show appreciation for the area’s support in 2023, his rhetoric signaled a clear escalation in the ongoing feud.

“It was a tough battle in 2023. You took a risk, worked with us, and God gave us victory. See what that risk has resulted in—a federal university sited in Tai and many other benefits,” he said.

Senator Barry Mpigi (APC–Rivers South-East) opened the remarks by expressing gratitude to President Tinubu and Nyesom Wike for their unprecedented support of the district.

Pledging his continued loyalty, Mpigi noted that the people remain committed to the principles of justice and equity championed by the current administration.

This sentiment was echoed by Bernard Mpigi, representing Tai Constituency in the House of Assembly, who assured the Minister of his constituents’ unwavering reliability.

Similarly, the Chairman of Tai Local Government Council, Mbakpone Okpe, credited Wike’s 2023 directive to support Tinubu as a turning point for the region.

Highlighting the influx of infrastructure and appointments, Okpe declared that Tai is already prepared to back the President for a second term.

Persecondnews recalls that Gov. Fubara was reinstated after a six-month emergency rule in Rivers State on September 18, 2025.

Tinubu had announced the end of the emergency rule on September 17, 2025, while Fubara resumed duties the following day.

The emergency rule was imposed on March 18, 2025, due to a constitutional impasse between the governor and the House of Assembly.

Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed the Administrator of the state and he served for six months, overseeing the state’s affairs.
