What Nigerians are to pay for UK visas, citizenship from April 8 (Full list)

393

The UK Home Office has announced a broad increase in fees for visas, residency, and citizenship, set to take effect on April 8, 2026.

This hike will impact international applicants—including the high volume of Nigerians seeking to visit, study, or relocate—across nearly every immigration category.

Key Changes at a Glance
The revised pricing applies to applications submitted both within the UK and from overseas.

The most notable categories affected include:
* Temporary Stay: Standard visit and student visas.
* Employment: All tiers of work visas.
* Permanent Status: Settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain) and naturalization (citizenship) applications.

Impact on Nigerian Applicants
With Nigeria consistently ranking as one of the top sources for UK visa requests, these changes will have a significant financial impact on the hundreds of thousands of Nigerians who apply annually for academic, professional, or personal travel.

The short-term visit visa rises from £127 to £135, while the student visa increases from £524 to £558. Nigerians seeking permanent residency will pay £3,226, up from £3,029, and those applying to naturalise as British citizens will pay £1,709, up from £1,605.

In a rare exception to the broad pattern of increases, the fee for registering a child as a British citizen is being reduced — from £1,214 to £1,000, a cut of £214. All other fees either rise or remain unchanged. Some categories, including the Tier 1 (Investor) visa and the High Potential Individual visa, are unchanged at £2,000 and £880 respectively.
