Abia State Governor Alex Otti has visited the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, reaffirming efforts to secure his release.

The visit, which took place on Sunday, was also attended by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, and other officials.

During the meeting, Gov. Otti informed Kanu that the Sultan of Sokoto endorsed a peaceful resolution to the matter, adding a humorous anecdote: the Sultan had jested that Kanu was now his “subject” and would be turbaned.

This remark elicited laughter from the IPOB leader.

Kanu, for his part, conveyed his appreciation for the visit and praised Otti’s commitment to development in Abia State, encouraging the Governor to continue prioritizing good governance.

Persecondnews recalls that Kanu, who was sentenced to life imprisonment on terrorism-related charges, has since been relocated from the DSS facility in Abuja to the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

Otti’s visit is seen as a significant move towards securing Kanu’s release, with the governor stating that efforts initiated over two years ago have been intensified.
