Team Nigeria ended its campaign at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games on a high note, clinching gold in the mixed 4x400m relay with a season’s best time of 3:16.27 seconds.

The talented quartet of Gafari Badmus, Anita Itohan Enaruna, Ezekiel Asuquo, and Patience Okon George delivered an impressive performance, outpacing Bahrain and Turkey to claim top spot.

“This success is a testament to our strategic approach,” said Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) on Friday.

“We focused on sending only podium prospects to Riyadh, and it has paid off handsomely.”

Nigeria’s winning streak extended beyond track and field, with Esther Kolawole securing gold in wrestling (Women’s 62kg freestyle) and Damola Ojo taking silver (Women’s 76kg freestyle).

The country’s medal tally now stands at 29 – 10 gold, 12 silver, and 7 bronze.

Olopade emphasized that this achievement marks a turning point for Nigerian sports.

“We have won medals in every sport we participated in, a departure from past trends.

“This will be our approach going forward, especially for major events like the Commonwealth Games and Olympics,” she said.
