China has expressed strong support for Nigeria’s sovereignty, condemning external interference in internal affairs.
Mao Ning, spokesperson of China’s foreign ministry on Tuesday, stated that China firmly opposes using religion and human rights as excuses to threaten other countries with sanctions and force.
As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,” Ning said.
Persecondnews reports that the statement was a direct response to a threat of military action by US President Donald Trump over accusations of Christian persecution.
Separately, Nigeria and China have strengthened their bilateral relationship, formalizing agreements across infrastructure, military, and economic sectors.
Nigeria further solidified this bond by reaffirming the One-China policy, recognizing Taiwan as integral Chinese territory.
