The Nigerian Presidency has denied reports claiming President Bola Tinubu will visit the United States on Tuesday to meet with US Vice President J.D. Vance.

The denial comes at a time of severe strain in Nigeria-US relations, exacerbated by President Donald Trump’s threat of military action over allegations of Christian genocide within Nigeria.

“There is a Sahara Reporters story that President Tinubu is going to the U.S. on Tuesday to see U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. That story is not true,” said Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity.

“I can see that the fake news by Sahara has become the basis for some uninformed commentaries since yesterday. If President Tinubu is going to the White House, he won’t be going to see a Vice President.”

Ajayi’s statement contradicts earlier reports citing presidential sources, which claimed Tinubu would meet with Vice President Vance.

Persecondnews recalls that Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, had indicated that Tinubu and Trump share common interests in counterterrorism and could meet soon.

“Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala stated, highlighting cooperation on arms sales and counterterrorism efforts.
