The National Sports Commission (NSC) in Abuja has successfully ushered in a new set of credible leaders for the nation’s Sports Federations.
Persecondnews reports that the commission delivered one of the most transparent, peaceful, and inclusive sports federation elections in Nigeria’s history.
These elections, held under the leadership of NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko and the Director General, Dr. Bukola Olopade, mark a turning point for Nigerian sports administration.
The newly elected professionals are poised to inject decades of leadership, innovation, and excellence into their respective federations.
“Our focus has been to restore confidence in the system. These elections are a testament to our resolve to reposition Nigerian sports as a beacon of integrity and innovation,”said DG Olopade on Thursday.
He highlighted the commission’s commitment to merit, integrity, and national growth through sports.
The commission also reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing excellence, strengthening governance across federations, and ensuring that Nigerian sports thrive both locally and on the global stage.
Persecondnews also reports that several notable figures have emerged as leaders of various sports federations.
Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, who was elected President of the Nigerian Boxing Federation.
His experience as Chairman of the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame will undoubtedly impact the sport.
Others include Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, as President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, and Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, a two-term Governor of Gombe State, as President of the Nigeria Chess Federation.
The elections also saw the re-election of Mr. Uyi Akpata as President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) for a second term.
As a senior regional partner at PwC and a respected figure in corporate and sports circles, Akpata is expected to continue advancing grassroots development and promoting Nigeria’s sporting image globally.
