NOC Condoles with Kano, Ogun Govt, Sports Bodies Over Athletes’ Deaths

The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Gumel and members of the Olympic family in Nigeria have extended their deepest condolences over the death of 20 Kano athletes who were returning from the just-concluded National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Persecondnews had reported that the athletes tragically lost their lives in a lone bus accident less than 50 kilometres away from Kano.

NOC stated: “At this trying moment, the NOC Condoles with the government of Kano, its Sports Commission, the National Sports Commission and the Ogun State Government.

“The loss of these remarkable individuals, who were not only talented athletes but also champions and role models, is a profound tragedy that has shaken our sporting community.

“Among the deceased are those who proudly represented their state and brought home medals alongside their devoted coaches and supportive administrative officials.

“Their dedication, hard work, and passion for sports have inspired many, and their absence will be deeply felt in the hearts of all who knew them.”

A statement by NOC’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya, noted that the accident occurred after the team departed from the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.

“As we face this heartbreaking incident, let us remember and honour their contributions to our sports community and the joy they brought to our lives.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families enduring this unimaginable pain, as well as with all those who are impacted by this devastating loss.

“May their souls rest in peace, and may we find strength in each other during this difficult time,” it said
