Reprieve has come for Badmus Okikiola, aka Portable, as Fuji legend, Okunola Saheed, aka Osupa has discontinued the cyberstalking case against him.
Mr. Ahmed Opalekunde, Osupa’s solicitor, confirmed to newsmen on Tuesday that he had filed for withdrawal of the case at the Upper Area Court 1 in Ilorin.
Opalekunde said this client had instructed him to withdraw the cyberstalking case due to interventions from notable stakeholders, opting for an amicable outside-of-court settlement instead.
The withdrawal letter included a warning from Osupa that Portable should refrain from making any further publications or statements that could disparage him.
The letter reads: “It is our client’s (nominal complainant) instruction that the stakeholders in the music industry and other notable personalities in the society have intervened in the matter and pleaded to the nominal complainant to withdraw the case against the defendant in the interest of public peace.
“We hereby on behalf of our client apply to withdraw the case against the defendant and terminate same accordingly as the matter had been resolved amicably.
“Further, sir, we want to pray the court to admonish and warn the defendant to desist from any further publications, utterances and any other acts aiming at disparaging the person and businesses of the nominal complainant.”
Persecondnews had reported that the singer appeared in court on Monday to answer to the charges of defamation of character levelled against him by the veteran Fuji musician.
Portable was, however, granted bail in the sum of N1 million with other stringent conditions, including two sureties required to provide a similar amount.
According to the court’s ruling, one of the sureties must be the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the other must be a property owner within a Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Ilorin with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
The case was documented under First Information Report (FIR) 117(1) CPC, and filed by the State Intelligence Department of the police following a petition dated March 21, 2025, by Osupa.
Osupa alleged that Portable made a live-stream video abusing him and damaged his reputation by falsely claiming he had removed his music from Apple Music and Spotify, thereby potentially impacting his income.
In the viral video, Portable was quoted as saying, “This man dey try to bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from platform make I no see money.”
