Following his arraignment on charges of criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disturbance, and cyberstalking, an Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has granted controversial singer Okikiola Badmus, a.k.a Portable, admitted him to a bail of N1 million.
The court also granted Portable two sureties in the same amount as part of the bail condition.
The court insisted that one surety should be a high-ranking official of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria(PMAN), while the other should own a property in a Government Reservation Area (GRA) with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
Persecondnews reports that Portable’s appropriation of Osupa’s iconic line led to a formal complaint from the singer’s representatives.
Prior to the defamation case, Portable had provoked Osupa with unflattering comments, drawing widespread criticism on social media.
He, however, later apologized to the Fuji singer over the outburst, blaming his temper for the development.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Kwara Police Command had arrested Portable, the controversial singer, on April 12.
According to Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the State Police Command, Portable was arrested following a petition by Osupa over allegations of defamation and threats.
The statement reads: “The petition borders on serious allegations which includes criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and the use of abusive and insulting words.
“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.
“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs.
“He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigation. Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties.
“He is currently in custody, and arrangements are being made to charge him to court without delay.”
