The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) witnessed a shocking incident on Sunday as Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper trainer, John Dosu, was allegedly punched by Niger Tornadoes’ coach, Mohammed Majin, during a match between the two teams.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation.
Shooting Stars secured a much-needed 3-1 win over Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, ending a six-game winless streak in the NPFL.
Ayodeji Bamidele opened the scoring in the 38th minute, followed by Anthony Okachi’s penalty just before halftime.
Sunday Williams pulled one back for Niger Tornadoes in the 66th minute, but Samuel Okon sealed the 3-1 win for Shooting Stars in the 77th minute.
However, the victory was overshadowed by the disturbing incident involving Dosu and Majin.
A viral video obtained by Persecondnews shows Dosu being revived after allegedly being punched by Majin.
Niger Tornadoes have since released a statement denying the allegations, claiming there is no video evidence to support the claim and accusing Shooting Stars of attempting to deceive the public.
In an exclusive chat with Persecondnews on Monday in Abuja, Tosin Omojola, Media Officer for Shooting Stars, stated that the club’s support staff promptly intervened to prevent further issues, addressing an incident involving Coach Majin.
Omojola noted that aside from the speculation that Niger Tornadoes attempted to use voodoo, they also breached matchday protocol with their unprofessional conduct.
The interview:
PSN: There are speculations that Niger Tornadoes tried to use voodoo before the game. Can you confirm or deny this?
Omojola: Not only voodoo, they tried to enter the pitch at a time when they weren’t supposed to. Upon arrival, they came with slippers and their bags, trying to enter the grass.
“The proper thing to do is to go straight to your dressing room, get checked, and then come out for your light work. But they tried to do it the other way round. With the way they were dressed, you could tell they weren’t ready for the light work.”
PSN: What triggered the alleged punching of Dosu’s face?
Omojola: According to what I was informed, Dosu was trying to tell them to move to their side of the pitch.
“You don’t encroach into your opponent’s half during light workout. At that instance, all hell was let loose. Coach Mohammed Majin knew he was wrong with his actions, and after the game, he came to apologize, telling us to kill the story.”
