Veteran Yoruba actress, Dupe Jaiyesimi, has shared the deeply personal struggles she has faced over the years, revealing the pain of childlessness, a lost pregnancy, and the heartbreak of an abandoned marriage.
In an emotional interview on actress Biola Adebayo’s podcast, Jaiyesimi opened up about her poignant feelings on Biola Adebayo’s podcast, revealing her deep sadness that she has no children to share in the joy of her 60th birthday celebration.
Jaiyesimi recalled a time when she was pregnant but tragically lost the child.
According to her, medical tests revealed that the baby was growing outside her womb, a condition known as ectopic pregnancy.
“I was once pregnant, but the scan showed that the baby was growing outside of the womb,” she revealed. “After a few weeks, I lost the pregnancy.”
The heartbreak of losing her baby was further compounded by betrayal in her marriage.
She disclosed that shortly after the miscarriage, her husband brought another woman into their home—pregnant with his child.
The pain of this revelation led her to make the difficult decision to leave the marriage.
“After I lost the pregnancy, my husband brought another woman home, and she was already expecting his baby,” she recounted. “I had no choice but to walk away, and since then, I have remained single.”
Despite her desire for motherhood, Jaiyesimi admitted that she had struggled with infertility and had undergone two rounds of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in an attempt to conceive, but both failed.
She also shared that she had once considered adopting a child but was discouraged by her late mother. “I attempted IVF twice, but it failed,” she said.
“At a point, I thought of adopting, but my mother warned me not to bring any child I didn’t conceive into my life.”
Reflecting on her decision to remain single, Jaiyesimi stated that many men she encountered were not interested in genuine companionship but only wanted to take advantage of her.
She expressed disappointment in relationships and chose solitude instead.
“Most men just wanted to have a piece of me, so I decided to stay single,” she said.
The actress, who once graced Yoruba movie screens with her talent, admitted that she had been absent from the industry for over seven years.
She has neither featured in films nor produced any projects of her own.
“The only thing I know how to do best is acting, but I have not been in movies for over seven years,” she lamented. “I haven’t produced any either.”
Despite the setbacks, Jaiyesimi remains hopeful. She firmly believes that as long as she is alive, there is still a chance for her to become a mother.
Her unwavering faith in the future keeps her going. “As long as there is life, there is hope,” she declared. “I still believe I can have my own child.”
Her story has struck a chord with many, especially women facing similar struggles.
Fans and colleagues have taken to social media to express their support, commending her for her resilience and courage in sharing her journey.
Some praised her for choosing self-respect over a toxic marriage, while others encouraged her not to give up on motherhood.
“God’s time is the best,” one commenter wrote.
“Your story is not over yet.” Another added, “You are a strong woman, and your testimony will come one day.”
The Yoruba film industry, where Jaiyesimi once thrived, has also reacted to her revelations.
Some filmmakers and actors have expressed their willingness to support her return to acting, urging her to reclaim her place on screen.
Speaking with Biola Adebayo, Jaiyesimi emphasised that she was not sharing her story for sympathy but to inspire women who might be going through similar struggles.
She advised women to embrace their journey, no matter how difficult, and never lose hope.
“I am not telling my story for people to pity me,” she said. “I just want people to know that life may not always go as planned, but we must keep faith.”
