A tense scene unfolded at the National Assembly today as police dispersed protesters supporting Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, with tear gas as they attempted to gain access to the National Assembly complex.

The protesters had gathered at the assembly gate as early as 8:00 am, coinciding with the resumption of plenary and the scheduled hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

The police officers justified tear
gasing the crowd to prevent a potential breakdown of law and order.

The protesters are said to have now relocated to the Unity Fountain in Abuja to continue their demonstration.

Persecondnews recalls that on February 20, 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio had clashed over seating arrangements in the Senate chamber.

The matter has been referred to the Senate’s Ethics Committee for appropriate action.

Again, on Friday, February 28, Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio of sexual harassment while she appeared on Arise TV.

She claimed she was being targeted because she rejected Akpabio’s advances.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had slammed a suit on the Senate President.
