In a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has given the nod for the appointments of Sulieman Amuda Yusuf and Rhoda Adetutu Olofu as Deputy Inspectors General of Police.
The newly appointed DIGs will fill the vacant positions left by the retiring DIGs in charge of Operations and Information and Communication Technology, respectively at the Force headquarters.
According to a statement released by PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, on Friday, the appointments were based on their seniority and performance, with both representing the North-Central geopolitical zone within the Nigeria Police Force.
The statement reads: “The two senior officers have maintained clean service records, and the Commission believes their promotion will serve as a motivation for improved performance within the force.”
DIG Sulieman Amuda Yusuf, prior to his appointment, served as: AIG Zone 9, Umuahia, AIG Federal Operations, Force Headquarters, Commissioner of Police (CP), Taraba State, CP, Police Mobile Force, Deputy Commandant, Police College, Kaduna & Oji River, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Operations, Jigawa State and Assistant Commissioner, Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), Bauchi State.
DIG Rhoda Adetutu Olofu, before her elevation served as: Force Secretary, Force Headquarters, AIG Maritime Police Command, Lagos, CP, Ports Authority Police Western Ports Command, CP, X-Squad, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), CP, Servicom, Research & Planning Department, DCP, Research & Planning Department, DCP, Admin, Training & Development Department, DCP, Investment, Logistics & Supply Department, Assistant Commissioner, Establishment, Force Secretary’s Office.
Having graduated from the Police Academy, both officers commenced their careers as Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police on March 3, 1990.
According to Anih, the Chairman of the PSC, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu has extended congratulations to the newly appointed DIGs, praising their distinguished careers while encouraging them to continue making valuable contributions to the Nigeria Police Force, both during and after their service.
He reiterated the PSC’s commitment to ensuring timely and merit-based promotions within the police force.
The Commission’s decision has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation.
Persecondnews had reported on December 6, 2024, that the commission took disciplinary actions against two Assistant Inspectors-General (AIG) of Police and an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
An AIG was reprimanded for disobeying lawful instructions, while another AIG received a warning letter for negligence, and an ACP faced demotion.
The disciplinary actions also led to the dismissal of 10 Assistant Superintendents, six Deputy Superintendents, two Chief Superintendents, and one Superintendent of Police.
Additionally, it resulted in the demotion of several officers, including one Chief Superintendent, two Superintendents, two Deputy Superintendents, and 13 Assistant Superintendents.
