Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Kuje, has adjourned the arraignment of Usman Yusuf, a former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), until February 3, 2025.

Yusuf’s arrest and prosecution were sparked by a petition submitted to the Federal Government during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, alleging misconduct and fraudulent practices.

Persecondnews recalls that he was relieved of his appointment in 2019 by President Muhammadu Buhari, following a recommendation for dismissal by a fact-finding panel set up by the Federal Ministry of Health due to alleged mismanagement of N919 million.

The defence counsel, Mr. Isaih Dokto Haruna, who held brief for the lead defence counsel, Mr. O.I.Habeeb (SAN), made an application for bail during Thursday’s sitting.

The court denied the bail application and adjourned the case until February 3, 2025, when the defendant will be arraigned.

Justice Nwecheonwu ordered the defendant to be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pending the hearing.

The EFCC arrested Yusuf on Wednesday, January 29, and brought to court on Thursday, January 30, for arraignment on allegations of fraud.
