The National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Nigerian athletes.

Dikko gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) delegation, led by President Tijani Babangida on Thursday.

According to Dikko, the NSC will implement policies that cater to the needs of all Nigerian athletes, regardless of their sport.

He noted that the welfare of athletes will be a top priority, stating, “Their welfare will not be toyed with in this administration.”

The Chairman also highlighted the importance of unity within the players’ union, stressing that factional interests should not overshadow the shared goals of advocating for athletes’ welfare and advancement.

Dikko pointed out that the Commission is committed to fostering partnerships, implementing policies, and driving initiatives that enhance athletes’ welfare, performance, and global competitiveness.

He also expressed his vision for introducing a pension scheme for professional footballers and athletes in Nigeria, a concept he first proposed in 2003.

Dikko affirmed that the Commission is dedicated to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda through sports.

“The NSC remains committed to prioritizing the welfare of athletes, past and present, and leveraging sports as a tool for national unity, youth empowerment, and economic development,” he said.
