Ghana’s newly inaugurated President, John Mahama, made a slip-up during his speech on Tuesday, mistakenly referring to Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu as the President of Ghana.
This error occurred while Mahama was introducing guests, including world leaders, during the ceremony.
Persecondnews reports that President Tinubu was in attendance at Mahama’s inauguration, having departed Abuja on Monday for Accra, Ghana’s capital, at the invitation of the president-elect.
This visit marked a significant moment in the relationship between Nigeria and Ghana, with Tinubu’s presence underscoring the importance of regional cooperation and diplomacy.
Mahama, 66, returned to office after a commanding victory in the December elections, securing 56.6% of the vote.
His win marked a significant shift in Ghana’s politics, with Mahama defeating the ruling party’s candidate amid widespread economic hardship.
The mistake was met with sarcastic reactions on social media, with one user commenting, “He has started again.”. @EmmanuelCchuka on X wrote “Even the most well-prepared individuals are not immune to occasional mistakes.”
@Cherishrubi said; “It’s not a big deal, please. His mind is focused on Ghana” despite the error, Mahama’s inauguration ceremony was seen as a significant moment for Ghana’s democracy, with the country’s transition of power being hailed as a success.
Tinubu, who is the Chairman of ECOWAS, had earlier congratulated Mahama on his victory, praising the Ghanaian people for their commitment to democracy.
He also expressed his commitment to working with Mahama’s administration to strengthen bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
