The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with host communities in the Niger Delta region to achieve lasting peace and economic prosperity.
This commitment was made clear by Group CEO, Mallam Mele Kyari, during a dialogue session with Niger Delta communities, held in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement.
In a statement by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Olufemi Soneye, on Thursday, he noted that the session, which took place at the Igurubia Square Ultra-Modern Town Hall in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, marked a significant step towards strengthening unity and promoting development in the region through the Third Phase Amnesty Programme.
Kyari emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue with traditional, ex-agitators, and youth leaders to address local concerns and restore trust across the nine Niger Delta states.
A key aspect of this commitment is the allocation of 3 percent of NNPC Ltd’s operational expenditures to community development, as mandated by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
This allocation will ensure that projects reflect the communities’ priorities, focusing on skills acquisition, community empowerment, and sustainable livelihood initiatives.
“Our mission is clear,” Kyari stated. “We are committed to fostering lasting peace, creating economic opportunities, and transforming the Niger Delta into a model of unity and progress.”
He concluded by emphasizing that NNPC Ltd. stands with the Niger Delta as it builds a prosperous future driven by mutual respect and collaboration.
This initiative is part of the company’s broader efforts to promote peace and development in the region, which has faced significant challenges in the past.
