June 12: Ogun Gov. Abiodun pays homage to Abiola’s family, urges national perseverance

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has urged Nigerians to remain committed to the democratic process and have faith in its ability to deliver.

Abiodun spoke during the Democracy Day prayers held at the Abeokuta residence of the late Moshood Abiola, who won the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Deputy Gov. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, representing Abiodun, expressed great joy that Nigerians are commemorating 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, a legacy of the late Moshood Abiola.

He praised the Federal Government for designating this day to not only honour Abiola’s legacy but also to celebrate the country’s democratic journey.

He assured that his administration remains committed to upholding the legacy of the late Moshood Abiola, not only as a notable son of Ogun State but also as a champion of democracy.

Abiodun stated that his government is committed to providing the benefits of democratic governance to the people of Ogun State.

He commended the Federal Government for its people-focused policies designed to create a brighter future for Nigeria.

Abiodun appealed to all Nigerians to maintain their support for the government and its agencies, stressing that collaborative efforts are crucial for the country’s progress and reaching its desired goals.

Ameen Abiola, speaking on behalf of the Abiola family, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who gather annually to honour the memory of the late Moshood Abiola.

He specifically thanked the Ogun State Government for their unwavering support and recent renovation of the family home.

Additionally, he appreciated the Federal Government’s declaration of June 12 as Democracy Day, which serves as a tribute to the late Abiola’s legacy, preserving his impact on Nigerian history.
