Even nine months after his death, there seems to be no end to the crisis rocking the family of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, the famous singer.
His father, Joseph Aloba, was questioned on Monday by officers of the Force Criminal and Investigations Department in Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos State, following a petition filed by Oba Saheed Elegushi.
After Mohbad’s death, Persecondnews notes that the family has been embroiled in crises, particularly over Liam’s paternity, as Mohbad’s father insisted on a DNA test to confirm the boy is, in fact, the late singer’s son.
There are also internal family issues within the Aloba family over the property of the late singer, who died under controversial circumstances, prompting the police to probe the real cause of his death.
However, a new petition addressing cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation written against Mr. Aloba landed him in the police net on Tuesday.
The allegations originated from a recent interview that Aloba granted, according to Monisola Odumosu, head of the Aloba legal team.
In a statement on Tuesday, Odumosu said, “Mr. Aloba was invited by the police and escorted to the station by his legal team representatives, Teri Wellington and Monisola Odumosu.
The petition, submitted by Oba Saheed Elegushi, claimed that Mr. Aloba made defamatory remarks during an interview with a London-based blogger.
During the interview, Aloba allegedly stated, “… his son was bullied and killed on the instruction of a popular Lagos traditional ruler.
Odumosu clarified that Aloba did not intend to defame or cyberbully Oba Elegushi but was simply seeking justice for his deceased son.
Aloba also pointed out that, aside from a petition his late son had written and phone conversations with him, he had no hard evidence to back up his accusations against the monarch.
Oba Elegushi, present at the meeting, requested a retraction of the defamatory statements.
Odumosu emphasized that Aloba received bail without any problems and was neither arrested nor detained.
“In fairness to Oba Elegushi, he only demanded a retraction of the statements made by Mr. Aloba on social media,” Odumosu added.
“Mr. Aloba is still grieving the death of his son and may have made unreasonable statements in his grief.”
Mohbad, aged 27, died on September 12, 2023, sparking controversy on social media. He had left Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, in February 2022.
Persecondnews recalls that following his death, the Lagos State Police Command set up a 13-man special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to probe the circumstances surrounding it. The investigation led to the arrests of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others.
On September 21, 2023, they exhumed Mohbad’s body for an autopsy.
Contrary to the Lagos State Government’s claims, a US-based lab denied conducting the toxicology test. This revelation came during a fact-finding mission by our correspondent to determine the cause of the musician’s death.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, had previously stated in a live call on the Abuja-based online program Brekete Family that the toxicology test was conducted at NMS Labs in Pennsylvania, USA.
However, a pathologist testified before the Coroner’s Court on May 15 that the autopsy could not determine Mohbad’s cause of death due to body decomposition.
