A massive $11,500 reward package is up for grabs at the first-ever Yenagoa City International 10 km Race this April.

A highly dependable source at Nilayo Sports Management Limited disclosed this to Persecondnews on Tuesday in an interview in Abuja that the April 4 event has already sparked international excitement.

The streets of Bayelsa’s capital are expected to host a world-class field, featuring top-tier distance runners from across the globe and every corner of Nigeria.

“Payouts for the leading elite men and women have been structured so the champion in each gender category walks away with $5,000, the runner-up collects $3,000, third place pockets $2,000, fourth receives $1,000 and fifth-place finishers earn $500.

“Action gets underway promptly at 9:30 a.m. when competitors surge forward from Opolo Roundabout on the Isaac Boro Expressway before converging on the finish line at the landmark Peace Park along the Mbiama–Yenagoa Road, with all athletes required to cross by the strict 12:30 p.m. deadline,” the source said.

The event serves a dual purpose: driving grassroots athletic growth and spotlighting Bayelsa as a rising tourism hub.

By drawing a diverse crowd of athletes and spectators, the race will elevate Yenagoa’s profile, proving the city’s capacity to host world-class sporting spectacles.

Registration is now open and can be completed in person at the Sports Department office inside the Ministry of Sports Complex in Ovom, Yenagoa—directly opposite the First Baptist Church—or conveniently via the official portal at www.yenagoacity10kmrace.com.

The race carries the official endorsement of both World Athletics and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

This partnership ensures the competition meets global benchmarks for fairness and technical compliance.
