A Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gbolahan Olugbemi, of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (FCIID), Yaba, Lagos, is reported to have taken his life.

The DCP, who had served as an aide to the late former Oyo Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, was said to have had a rope around his neck when he was found dead in his house in Ogbomoso, his home town.

The late DCP Olugbemi returned home for Easter from Lagos and was not accompanied by his aides to his home on Petros Academy Street in the Federal Low Cost estate.

His home has been condorned off as people gathered in groups to lament the brave officer’s untimely death.

A neighbour remarked: “He occasionally returned home with police protection.” Indeed, I recently seen him directly pulling into his exquisite mansion.

“The only person we see is him. He rarely appears with his family.”

It was revealed that the man had been suffering from depression for a considerable amount of time.

He was recommended for recognition for his management of the 2020 ENDSARS protests because of his outstanding policing.

Prior to his passing, Olugbemi worked as a personal assistant to two previous commissioners of police in Lagos State and as a Divisional Police Officer for the Ilupeju and Area Commander in Ajah, Lagos
