The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, a private security company, have thwarted attacks from alleged barons of illegal crude oil bunkering and destroyed a sizable store that the oil thieves had erected in the riverine region of Ondo State.
About 700 kegs filled with crude oil, which amounts to 21,000 litres of crude oil and two wooden boats filled with crude oil were set ablaze on Monday morning.
A statement by Tantita’s Executive Director, Operations and Technical Services, Capt. Warredi Enisuoh, said on Monday that they stormed the Ilaje community and the Trans-Forcados Western corridor in Ondo State and busted the oil theft.
Enisuoh pointed out that the joint security efforts fended off some community youths who attacked them and chased them away with their superior firepower.
The suspects reportedly escaped with their speedboats.
According to him, Tantita agents in Ondo State, working with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), stormed Awoye on Monday morning after receiving detailed information about a sizable store that the oil thieves had built, where they stored the adulterated crude oil and sell it to local buyers.
“Tantita men, in collaboration with the Nigerian Civil Defence, stormed the area this morning to destroy it totally and set everything ablaze, as appeared in the photos and video attached to this content.
“Some community guys attacked us, but we chased them away through a full exchange of ammunition; kudos to the Nigerian civil defence,” he said, describing the intervention as a successful operation.
“It is indeed a successful but stressful trip,” it said.
While warning residents against playing the role of economic saboteurs, the statement also said:“Government is our friend, ready to develop and transform our land with the aim of employing youths across the federation.
“Let us support them and stop them from destroying our properties.Fortunately, we met 700 kegs filled with crude oil, which amounts to 21,000 litres of crude oil.
“The whole kegs with the camp and store was set ablaze. Also, we met two wooden boats filled with crude oil, and all were set ablaze.
“The surveillance patrol carried out by the Tantita Security men in collaboration with the NSCDC was led by the Tantita Commandant in Ondo State, Chief Idowu Asonja.
“Attached to this article are the pictures and true video coverage recorded from the scene of this camp or store.”
He also urged people to support the Tantita Security Services in waging war against oil thieves and destroyers of the nation’s resources.
The statement also quoted Asonja as warning them seriously against pipeline vandalism, oil thefts, and adulteration of the nation’s crude oil.
“Tantita Operation No Mercy is a crusade against anti-government individuals, bodies, or groups.”
