The Kwara State Police Command said it has rescued the wife of the murdered monarch of Koro-Ekiti in Kwara State, Olusegun Aremu-Cole, a retired Army General, and another abductee.

Persecondnews reported that on Thursday, February 1, the traditional ruler was assassinated by gunmen, who broke into his palace and kidnapped his wife and two other people.

They, however, released a 83-year-old man for being weak and could not trek into the bush.

The rescue operation also resulted in the arrest of 13 people, according to DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command’s spokesman, who made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He stated that as part of the investigation, the Inspector-General of Police gave approval for a police aircraft to be sent into the forest and along the Kwara-Ekiti border for surveillance.

“The operation led to the rescued of kidnap victims and they have been re-united with their families, hale and hearty.

“The suspects are undergoing vigorous interrogation with a view to aid the arrest of other members of the gang who are at large,“ he said.

He said Police Commissioner Victor Olaiya remained resolute to prosecute the perpetrators of the dastardly act and urged the public “to be calm and security conscious as they go about their daily activities without fear or anxiety. ”
