Mr Ibu: Wife, family, friends at “war” over donated funds

...wife accuses Jasmine Okeke of taking over the account where funds are lodged

The family of the ailing actor, John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu, appears to be at daggers drawn over the control of the funds earmarked for his treatment donated by public-spirited Nigerians.

Mr Ibu’s wife, who seems to be in the centre of the turmoil, claimed that the account where the generous donations meant for her husband’s health are lodged has been seized by an unexpected figure – a woman identified as Jasmine Okeke.

The saga began when Okeke accused Mr Ibu’s wife of withholding a substantial N1 million donation, prompting a swift denial by Mrs Ibu.

She clarified that the money was specifically for the settling of critical bills arising from her husband’s illness, and not for personal gain.

However, the real conflict emerged when Mrs Ibu discovered that Jasmine Okeke, whom she characterized as a complete stranger, had allegedly taken charge of the family’s finances.

Expressing deep concern, Mrs Ibu revealed that Jasmine maneuvered her way into the family, assuming a role that is beyond her bounds as a mere acquaintance.

Trouble reportedly started when Mrs Ibu sought transparency, requesting a statement of account detailing how the substantial donations were utilized.

The seemingly confrontational approach from Ibu’s wife appeared to have angered Jasmine, who reportedly refused to disclose the financial details.

The ensuing chaos led to a barrage of allegations and counter-allegations between Mrs Ibu and Jasmine which seemed to be dragging the Okafor’s name in the mud.

“I am Mr Ibu’s wife, and I deserve to know how money donated for his treatment is being spent. That was all I asked for,” Mrs Ibu lamented, emphasizing her right to information regarding the funds meant for her husband’s well-being.

The situation has escalated to the point where the substantial funds, amounting to millions, have become something to fight over.

As tensions rise and sides are taken, relatives and friends find themselves drawn into the maelstrom, intensifying the family’s internal strife.
