CNG project: Senate requests Pres. Tinubu’s supplementary budget

1.2k

The Senate Committee on Gas has urged President Bola Tinubu to send a supplementary budget to the National Assembly to facilitate the procurement process of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for mass transit across the country.

Persecondnews recalls that as part of palliative package to cushion the effects of subsidy removal, the federal government had assured the organized labor that it will speed up the approval of N100 billion for high-capacity CNG buses to bolster the transportation sector.

The decision also encompasses the distribution of 55,000 CNG conversion kits to initiate an auto gas conversion, while waiting for the ongoing construction of advanced CNG stations across the country.

Sen. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the Committee Chairman, said this in a statement on Tuesday: “It will be illegal to spend tax payers money without approval by the National Assembly.”

Jarigbe also lauded President Tinubu for the CNG buses initiative aimed at alleviating the petrol subsidy pain, but said “the law frowns at extra-budgetary spending.”
