Nigeria at 63: Mixed reactions trails Tinubu’s Presidency as Nigerians lament economic hardships

208

As Nigeria marked its 63rd Independence anniversary, the streets of Abuja resonated with a chorus of praise, jeers and criticisms from Nigerians on the performance of the presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The current economic challenges, notably the skyrocketing exchange rate, have dominated discussions among citizens, many of who voiced their deep concerns about the poor state of the economy and the hardships bedeviling the nation.

A Per Second News crew ventured into the heart of the capital city to gauge the mood of Nigerians on the independence anniversary day.

The diverse opinions expressed by the people painted a complex picture of the nation’s mood.

On one hand, some Nigerians heaped praises on President Tinubu for his leadership, commending his efforts in addressing various issues facing the country.

Per Second News observed that such voices emphasized the need for patience and persistence in tackling the deeply rooted economic problems.

Conversely, others placed the blame squarely on the President’s desk, particularly concerning the troubling exchange rate, where the Nigerian currency — the Naira — has been struggling to maintain its value against the U.S. dollar.

This depreciation, according to Nigerians, has affected the cost of living and the purchasing power of many, leading to widespread lamentations About the poor state of the economy.

The exchange rate issue has been a longstanding concern, and it continues to be a source of frustration for citizens who experience its impact on a daily basis.

The plea from these individuals is clear: the government must take immediate and effective steps to stabilize the economy and reduce poverty.

While the nation celebrates 63 years of independence, this diversity of opinion highlights the challenges that President Tinubu faces in addressing the country’s economic woes.

As the country reflects on its past and envisions its future, the importance of tackling economic challenges and reducing poverty remains a top priority for Nigerians across the board.
