The Benue State Elections Tribunal on Friday declared Sen. Gabriel Suswam of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Benue Northeast Senatorial election held on February 25, 2023.

The former Benue governor was returned after a judgment that lasted over three hours in the capital city of Makurdi.

Persecondnews reports that the PDP candidate lost his bid to return to the upper chamber of the National Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Barrister Emmanuel Udende, after polling 107,303 votes as against the 141,405 votes allegedly got by the APC candidate.

Susan, however, challenged the declaration of Udende by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner and vowed to retrieve his mandate in court.

“The people of the zone overwhelmingly voted for me but INEC did not do its job properly,” he said.
