The Nigerian entertainment industry may have grown in leaps and bounds in the past few years with movie practitioners and music artistes raking in millions but actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde said she and her colleagues laid the foundation many years back.

Omotola whose appearance in movies has reduced over the last few years, stated that movies produced back then when there was no social media to promote them broke barriers and paved way for the success currently trailing the entertainment industry today.

The mother of three observed that despite poor video quality, lack of sophisticated production equipment and other factors that hindered movie production in the early days of Nollywood, the movies produced when there was no internet created the platform upon which today’s Nollyood and music industry thrive successfully.

Sharing the videos which had Rita Dominic, Genevieve Nnaji and Stella Damasus in them, Omotola said her colleagues raised the bar with their movies and still do.

“Despite the not-so-great quality, no social media, these movies broke barriers. This happened way before Afrobeats.

“We introduced Nigerian entertainment to the world. We took on the World. We still do.”
