A yet-to-be-identified policeman has been crushed at the Saiten Petrol Station end of the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State by a truck belonging to the Dangote Cement Factory.

Five persons were also reported to have sustained varying degrees of injury in the crash which occurred late onTuesday.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Florence Okpe, who made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday, said nine vehicles, including a Dangote truck, a tipper, a yellow bus, an armoured tank, a Toyota RAV4 and three motorcycles, were involved in the crash.

She explained that the crash happened when the driver of the Dangote truck, while driving at top speed, attempted to overtake a vehicle, adding that the driver lost control, crashed into other vehicles, and subsequently plunged into the river.

“The impact of the collision made the Toyota RAV4 car go up in flames. The fire was put out with a fire extinguisher obtained from a nearby filling station.

“The injured victims were taken to the General Hospital in Ota for medical attention. One person identified as a police officer, who was on duty, got injured and was also taken to the hospital by the FRSC rescue team, but he later died,” she said.
