There was disquiet on Wednesday in Abuja at the resumed hearing of the petition filed by the Labour Party and its Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, at Presidential Election Tribunal as two factional leaders of the party fight for legitimacy and take over of the case.

As soon as the doors to the court room were opened for lawyers and others to come in for the day’s sitting, the Acting National Chairman of the party, Lamidi Apapa, from Lagos pressed to be in charge.

Persecondnews reports that a shouting match had ensued between the two factions of the party — the court- suspended chairman, Julius Abure and Apapa — on which group should be in court.

As the drama unfolds, the Justices on the tribunal arrived to commence the day’s proceedings and ruled that it would not recognize or acknowledge the representation of the party by the two factions but only the Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, who is present in court.

The Tribunal refused to take an appearance for the LP as acting National Chairman of the party, Lamidi Apapa, as well as the National Women’s Leader of the party, Dudu Manugu, tried to make an appearance for Labour Party when the petition was called.

Justice Haruna Tsamani noted that if two persons are making an appearance for the party, they will not be put on record.

Persecondnews recalls that hearing of Obi’s petition was adjourned last week for Wednesday, May 18, 2023.
